Using the Draft H.26l Video Coding Standard for Mobile Applications
نویسندگان
چکیده
The mai n goals of the new ITU -T H.26L standardization effort are enhanced compression performance and provision of a “network-friendly” packet -based video representation addressing “conversational” (i.e., video telephony) and “non conversational” (i.e., storage, broadcast, or streaming) applications. Hence, the H.26L design covers a Video Coding Layer (VCL), which provides the core high -compression representation of the video picture content, and a Network Adaptation Layer (NAL), which packages that representation for delivery over a particular type of network. The H.26L VCL test model has achieved a significant improvement in rate -distortion efficiency – providing nearly a factor of two in bit -rate savings when comparing against the H.263+ test model. NAL designs are being developed to transport the coded video data over existing and future networks such as circuit -switched wired networks, IP networks with RTP packetization, and 3G wireless systems. The NAL is also designed to enable simple gateway operation in heterogeneous transmission scenarios.

A Performance Analysis of the ITU-T Draft H.26L Video Coding Standard
The ITU-T draft H.26L video coding standard has been designed with the goal of enabling significantly improved compression performance relative to all existing video coding standards, as well as other important features, such as error resilience and network adaptability. While the basic coding framework of the standard is similar to that of currently popular video standards, H.26L includes many...
متن کاملGeneralized B Pictures and the Draft H.26L Video Compression Standard
This paper reviews recent advances in using B pictures in the context of the draft H.26L video compression standard. We focus on reference picture selection and linearly combined motion-compensated prediction signals. We show that bi-directional prediction exploits partially the efficiency of combined prediction signals whereas multihypothesis prediction allows a more general form of B pictures...
متن کاملVideo Coding in H.26L
For the past few years, the capacity of global networks and communication channels has increased considerably. This allows for real-time applications like video conferencing and video-on-demand using compressed video. State-of-the-art video coding solutions such as H.263, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 all have one goal in common: to achieve highest possible image quality for lowest possible bit-rate. Durin...
متن کاملThe error concealment feature in the H.26L test model
This paper presents the error concealment (EC) feature implemented by the authors in the test model of the draft ITU-T video coding standard H.26L. The selected EC algorithms are based on weighted pixel value averaging for INTRA pictures and boundary-matching-based motion vector recovery for INTER pictures. The specific concealment strategy and some special methods, including handling of B-pict...
متن کاملThe Emerging Jvt/h.26l Video Coding Standard
JVT/H.26L is a current project of the ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG) and the ISO/IEC Motion Picture Experts Group (MPEG). The main goals of the new JVT/H.26L standardization effort are a simple and straight forward video coding design to achieve enhanced compression performance and provision of a "network-friendly" video representation addressing "conversational" (video telephony) and ...
